James Lewis


James qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 2000 and has since focused on mergers and acquisitions and capital raisings. Initially in the London offices of Deutsche Bank and CSFB focusing on UK M&A, he then joined Deloitte and became Co‐Head of the PLC Advisory team in 2012 before moving to RSM as a partner in the M&A and Private Equity team in 2016 and then joining Cairn Financial Advisers in 2018.

Since 2006 James has focused on small/mid‐cap corporate finance advisory roles advising companies (UK and international) and private equity firms on Takeover Code transactions, general M&A and strategic reviews. He also has significant experience in capital markets transactions (capital fundraisings and IPOs) and debt for equity restructurings of public companies acting on both the Company and lender side of transactions.

James joined Cairn in April 2018 and having stepped down as a Partner in 2023, remains a consultant to the firm, bringing a wealth of experience from advising clients on general and PLC M&A, hostile and recommended takeovers as well as significant IPO experience. He has completed over 50 transactions during his career.

Recent M&A credentials include the recommended offer for Innovise Limited by Team Software Inc., the £20m recommended offer for Be Heard Group plc by MSQ Partners (an LDC portfolio company) and the £52m merger of Modern Water PLC and Deepverge PLC.
